Ayurvedic Cami

$ 96

This beautiful and airy organic cotton gauze camisole is at one with nature. The fabric has been ayurvedically whitened using a unique combination of over 20 herbs and plants, including aloe vera, lavender, peppermint, pomegranate and turmeric, all wonderful for your skin. Each piece is unique due to the traditional hand-dyeing and handlooming techniques used in making the fabric.

This camisole is whitened according to the traditional techniques of ayuvedic medicine, using a combination of medicinal plants focused on relaxation and improving your immune system. The plants used include aloe vera, lavender, peppermint, pomegranate, wild lettuce, 12 types of turmeric, 4 types of holy basil, Mukul myrrh tree, white sandalwood, leucas aspera, edible amaranth, african coriander, andrographis paniculata, touch-me-nots, climbing lily, red sandalwood, indian ginseng, little tree plant, wool plant, heartleaf, black pepper, waterhyssop, and cinnamomum macrocarpum. The fabric is carefully treated with these plants in a traditional process that keeps the beneficial properties of the various plants and herbs alive.

The fabric is handloomed and hand-whitened according to traditional Indian techniques.  The company that employs the handloomers and dyers is a non-profit focused on the welfare and development of deprived, marginalized and downtrodden traditional handloom weaving communities. Its employees are paid fair wages and have safe working conditions.

After weaving and whitening, the fabric is manufactured into shirts by a Los Angeles manufacturer that likewise provides fair wages and safe working conditions.  Then it it locally dip-dyed in indigo at Sustain.

This cami is made with organic cotton fabric that is grown, harvested and processed without the use of harmful chemicals that could leech into our environment.

In addition, This cami is naturally whitened and dyed with natural, sustainably harvested plants and herbs. Natural plant dyes are the most sustainable type of dye known. Not only do plant dyes not produce toxic run-off during the dyeing process, but plant dyes have a negative carbon footprint. Meaning that the plants used in plant dyeing remove more carbon from the atmosphere during their growth than is released during the dyeing process, helping to reverse the cause of global climate change.
