Kids Over-the-Ear Organic Face Mask

Reversible face masks made with plant-dyed organic cotton and natural rubber elastic. One side is a plant-dyed, handwoven organic cotton fabric and the other is either undyed, unbleached organic cotton or plant-dyed organic cotton.

Strap length is adjustable with elastic knot hidden in the side pockets. Small 1.5" opening at the bottom of the mask can be used to insert a flexible filter if desired (additional filter not provided).

Generally fits kids ages 2-10. Fabric is approximately 5.75 inches (14.5cm) across and 3 inches (7.5 cm) long at side seam.

While most clothing and accessories use synthetic fabrics and dyes (even organic apparel), our masks are made with 100% organic cotton, naturally dyed with plants. The blue stripes mask is dyed with organic indigo leaves, the charcoal black mask is dyed with organic myrobalan fruit, the blue check mask is naturally dyed with organic indigo leaves, myrobalan fruit and fusticwood, and the mauve mask is dyed with organic madder roots and wood from the Campeche tree.

Indigo leaf dye has been safely used for thousands of years (dating back to 2000-3000 B.C.) for its ability to make strong and beautiful blues. In the 1800s, natural indigo was almost completely replaced by synthetic indigo, which is derived from the known toxin aniline (a chemical that has been used to make rocket fuel).

The dried fruits of myrobalan trees used for dyeing are commonly used in ayurvedic and traditional Tibetan medicine. Because myrobalan is very high in antoxidants, it has been used to protect against various age and heart related diseases.

Fusticwood is a common natural dye known for its ability to make strong and vibrant yellows. Fusticwood has been used for hundreds of years, and was one of the main dyes used to dye uniforms during WWI.

Madder root is one of the oldest natural dyes, known for its ability to make beautiful reds. It has been safely used for thousands of years, since at least ancient Egypt (cloth dyed with it has even been found alongside the possessions of King Tut).

Wood from the Campeche tree (also known as logwood) has been safely used in Europe since the 1500s, and by the Mayans for hundreds of years before that. It is prized for creating longlasting blacks with the addition of iron.

The exterior fabric in these masks is handloomed by a non-profit that focuses on the welfare and development of deprived, marginalized and downtrodden traditional handloom weaving communities in India by providing jobs having fair wages and safe working conditions.

The interior fabric and the sewing thread used in these masks are GOTS certified. GOTS certification in additional to strict environmental standards, certifies that every company involved in the production of the fabric provides fair wages and safe working conditions.

This elastic is from a company that practices fair trade throughout its supply chain.

These fabrics are then manufactured into masks in-house in Los Angeles where we provide safe working conditions and fair wages.

The jersey fabric used in these masks is GOTS certified organic as is the sewing thread. GOTS certification is the highest standard in organic. Every single step in the creation of this piece, from the growing of the fiber, to final manufacture, is independently certified to be organic.

The exterior fabric is organic cotton fabric that is grown, harvested and processed by a small coop without the use of harmful chemicals that could leech into our environment.

The elastic is 60% certified organic cotton and 40% natural rubber.

The masks are dyed with wildcrafted and organically grown plant dyes. Plant dyes do not produce toxic run-off like conventional (and other organic dyes) and plant dyes remove carbon from the air during the plant's growth, helping reverse the cause of global climate change.

Machine wash on gentle cycle using a mild pH-neutral detergent and without fabric softeners. Tumble dry on low.
