Fitted Organic Face Mask

Fitted face mask made with plant-dyed organic cotton and natural rubber elastic. One side is a plant-dyed indigo and white stripes, the other is undyed white organic cotton. Internal third layer of 10oz organic canvas creates structure to help prevent the mask from collapsing into your mouth. 100% natural and safe for your face.

Strap length is adjustable with elastic knot hidden in the side pockets. Opening in the mask's lining can be used to insert a flexible filter if desired (additional filter not provided).

The mask is approximately 9 inches (23 cm) across at the top of the ear and 6 inches (15 cm) long at the center seam.

While most clothing and accessories use synthetic fabrics and dyes (even organic ones), our masks are made with 100% organic cotton, both undyed and naturally plant dyed. The lining and internal fabrics are undyed organic cotton. The blue stripes is naturally dyed with indigo leaves, the lavender houndstooth is dyed with madder root, the charcoal black is dyed with myrobalan fruit and the blue check is dyed with indigo leaves and myrobalan fruit.

Indigo leaf dye has been safely used for thousands of years (dating back to 2000-3000 B.C.) for its ability to make strong and beautiful blues. In the 1800s, natural indigo was almost completely replaced by synthetic indigo, which is derived from the known toxin aniline (a chemical that has been used to make rocket fuel).

Madder root is one of the oldest natural dyes, known for its ability to make beautiful reds. It has been safely used for thousands of years, since at least ancient Egypt (cloth dyed with it has even been found alongside the possessions of King Tut).

The dried fruits of myrobalan trees used for dyeing are commonly used in ayurvedic and traditional Tibetan medicine. Because myrobalan is very high in antoxidants, it has been used to protect against various age and heart related diseases.

The exterior fabric in these masks is handloomed by a non-profit that focuses on the welfare and development of deprived, marginalized and downtrodden traditional handloom weaving communities in India by providing jobs having fair wages and safe working conditions.

The internal and lining fabrics and the sewing thread used in these masks are GOTS certified. GOTS certification, in additional to strict environmental standards, also certifies that every company involved in the production of the fabric provides fair wages and safe working conditions.

This elastic is from a company that practices fair trade throughout its supply chain.

These fabrics are then manufactured into masks in-house in Los Angeles where we provide safe working conditions and fair wages.

The internal and lining fabrics are GOTS certified organic as is the sewing thread. GOTS certification is the highest standard in organic. Every single step in the creation of this piece, from the growing of the fiber, to final manufacture, is independently certified to be organic.

The exterior fabric is organic cotton fabric that is grown, harvested and processed by a small coop without the use of harmful chemicals that could leech into our environment.

Dyed with wildcrafted and organically grown plant dyes. Plant dyes do not produce toxic run-off like conventional (and other organic dyes) and plant dyes remove carbon from the air during the plant's growth, helping reverse the cause of global climate change.

Care Instructions: Machine wash on the gentle cycle using a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Tumble dry on low or line dry. Iron if needed.
