Organic Weld Seeds

These seeds are locally and organically grown in our Los Angeles dye garden.  These seeds are from the same plants we used to dye our California Grown Plant-dyed Linen Tee.

Weld is one if not the longest lasting and most colorfast yellow dye.  It yields a bright sun yellow, or shades of olive green with the addition of iron.

Each package is sold individually and contains approx. 200 seeds.

Weld is an incredible natural dye plant that was historically used throughout Europe, Asia and was even used by native Americans. It is known for its ability to make the longest lasting natural yellows, and also makes olive greens with small amounts of iron.

Natural plant dyes are the most sustainable type of dye known. Not only do plant dyes not produce toxic run-off during the dyeing process, but organic and sustainable plant dyes have a negative carbon footprint. Meaning that the plants used in plant dyeing remove more carbon from the atmosphere during their growth than is released during the dyeing process, helping to reverse the cause of global climate change.

Plant weld seeds after the last frost, or in early summer. If you live in a warm climate, you can plant seeds in late autumn for early spring blooms. Do not cover seeds. Weld plants grow in moist to slightly dry soil. It appreciates rich loam but tolerates clay or gravelly soil. Plant seeds in a permanent location, as seedlings don’t transplant well. Weld plants need full or partial sunlight.
