Avocado-dyed Shibori Tee

Same flattering cut as our Colorgrown Cotton Tee, this organic cotton tee was hand-dyed with traditional shibori techniques using locally-sourced organic avocado skins and seeds and GOTS certified organic extracts from madder roots. Each piece is unique.

These tees run fitted. For the more relaxed fit pictured, size up one to two sizes. The model is typically a size small and is wearing a size large.

The model is 5'10" and wearing a size large. A small is 26" long and 34" at the bust unstretched.

Unlike industry-standard petroleum-based dyes, these pieces are dyed with organic avocado skins and seeds and organic madder roots.

Avocados make a beautiful, lasting pink dye from the skins and seeds. The main pigments are tannins, natural astringents also found in wines and tea, and anthrocyanins, which are highly antioxidant. Much safer for your skin than synthetic alternatives.

Madder root is one of the oldest natural dyes, known for its ability to make beautiful reds. It has been safely used for thousands of years, since at least ancient Egypt (cloth dyed with it has even been found alongside the possessions of King Tut).

The fabric used in this tee is GOTS certified, which in additional to its strict environmental standards, also certifies that every company involved in the production of the fabric provides fair wages and safe working conditions. This fabric was manufactured into tees in Los Angeles by a small company that likewise provides its workers safe working conditions and fair wages.

This shirt is made with GOTS certified organic cotton fabric and sewing thread - the highest standard in organic. Every single step of in the creation of this piece, from the growing of the cotton, to final manufacture, is independently verified to be organic.

Dyed with recycled, organic food waste (avocado skins and seeds) and GOTS certified organic madder roots. These plant dyes do not produce toxic run-off like conventional (and other organic dyes) and plant dyes remove carbon from the air during the plant's growth, helping reverse the cause of global climate change.

Machine wash on the gentle cycle using a mild, pH neutral detergent and without fabric softeners. Tumble dry on low.
